HOW OUR DATA CONNECTS BUSINESS TO BIODIVERSITY

Your corn depends on a bat.

Your corn depends on a bat.

Your corn depends on a bat.

Corn is guarded by bats like the big brown bat, which eat the adult beetles of the corn rootworm, one of the crop’s costliest pests. Cocoa is pollinated by an insect the size of a pinhead. The water a factory draws is filtered by the wetland downstream and held by the forest above it. Pollinated crops, clean water, fertile soil, a stable climate: none of it arrives on its own. It is delivered by species, and species are disappearing.

When they go, it shows up in yields, water allocations, sourcing costs and the P&L long before it shows up in a sustainability report. Whether you grow it, source it or run a plant that depends on it, most organizations can’t see it coming, because nobody is counting the species.

Where to act first

Which site to build on. Where to put regenerative money. Which parcels matter for a corridor. SAVE ranks every place by what’s at stake for species, and says what pressure to reduce.

“Where the bang for the buck would be greatest.”

Prove it got better

Other tools tell you where. The Species Habitat Index tells you whether it changed, and why: attributable habitat gain or loss for every species, every year since 2001.

“Track positive trends of impactful projects.”

Defend it when challenged

Peer-reviewed methods, 15 years of research behind the model, indicators adopted into the UN Global Biodiversity Framework. Every number traces back to the species behind it.

“Make sure we can prove what we’re saying if we get challenged.”

STATE OF NATURE · SAVE

Where does action matter most for at-risk species and ecosystems?

For every species in an area, SAVE combines stewardship (how much of its range sits here), how close it is to extinction, how severe local pressures are, and how sensitive that species is to them. One score per site, broken down by pressure, so it says both where it matters and what to reduce. Threatened ecosystems are scored the same way.

WHAT’S DIFFERENT

A ranked list with a reason you can repeat, not a single global number. The pressure breakdown points to the action.

IN USE

A global company ranks 270+ facilities. An investment manager screens 600+ reforestation sites. SAVE Species and SAVE Ecosystems, site to portfolio.
